About Us
Our Charleston Auto Service Shop’s History
Since 1997, Steve & Stacy’s Servicenter has been here to provide dependable, professional, and honest automotive care. For nearly three decades, we’ve helped local drivers maintain, repair, and enhance their vehicles while earning a reputation as one of the most trusted shops in the region.
Our story begins with Steve Basham, owner and driving force behind the business. Steve’s journey in the automotive industry started over 40 years ago while selling service equipment for Sun Electric across West Virginia. This role exposed him to advanced training, hands-on experience, and insights into the challenges faced by both shops and customers, particularly the lack of trust between vehicle owners and repair facilities. Early in his career, Steve developed a strong connection with Charleston’s Vickers & Stacy Exxon Service, which eventually led him to work there, later move through positions at Charleston Lincoln Mercury and Firestone, and ultimately return to Vickers & Stacy to purchase the business. On January 2, 1997, Steve and his wife, Stacy, opened Steve & Stacy’s Servicenter with a vision: to become the most trusted automotive repair shop in the Charleston area, while expanding its capabilities in tune-ups, electrical diagnostics, and advanced vehicle services.
Over the years, our shop has expanded in both size and scope of services. A fortunate opportunity arose to take over the Turner Transmission building, providing us with a spacious four-bay shop designed for efficiency and expanded diagnostic capabilities. Today, our facility features state-of-the-art equipment, including lab scopes, Snap-on scan tools, wheel alignment systems, tire machines, brake lathes, smoke machines, key programming equipment, and more. This allows us to service most domestic and Asian vehicles, as well as light- to heavy-duty trucks, and even small engines, such as mowers, generators, and snow blowers.
Steve’s qualifications are extensive. He holds a BS in Business Management with a minor in economics and studied Mechanical Engineering at West Virginia Tech for two years. He is an ASE Master Technician and holds certifications in Advanced Engine Performance, Advanced Electronic Diesels, and CNG Vehicles.
Beyond the shop, Steve is passionate about small engines, antique engines, flying as a private pilot, fishing, and studying World War II history. His curiosity and precision in these hobbies translate directly to the quality and attention to detail you’ll find in our shop.
